Both apps are excellent. Both have passionate loyalists. And both work beautifully with Arwign planner templates — but in different ways.
Where GoodNotes wins
- Hyperlink handling — tabs in a hyperlinked planner feel instant.
- Folder organisation — nested folders keep multiple planners tidy.
- Templates & stickers — the elements sidebar is perfect for digital stickers.
Where Notability wins
- Audio recording — brilliant for students annotating lectures.
- Continuous scroll — some people simply prefer a vertical flow.
- Quick notes — faster capture when you just need to jot.
Our verdict
If your planner is the centre of your system, choose GoodNotes — hyperlinks and tabs feel native. If you take heavy notes around your planning, Notability may suit you better. Every Arwign planner ships as a standard PDF, so it works perfectly in both — and you can switch apps without repurchasing.
